Reports of the iPhone 5?s Waning Popularity Are Overstated

Reports of the iPhone 5′s Waning Popularity Are Overstated
Apple reportedly cut orders for iPhone 5 parts following weaker-than-projected demand. Although there are a number of reasons why demand could be shrinking, there are plenty of signs that iPhone fever is still going strong.

Webcam stream capturing enabled in Firefox 20 -

I have to admit that I never used a webcam in my entire life. I can see where a cam can be a great way of communicating with people who are not nearby, but I somehow never stumbled into situations where I might want to use video chat on a computer. Part of this comes from me being more the silent type who is not that chatty to being with, with the rest coming from the knowledge that everything I say or do on cam can be recorded by the other party without me knowing about it.

Regardless of my personal opinion and use of webcams, I do know that they provide computer users with excellent communication options. Like many other technologies they are part of the HTML5 specification so that users in the future can capture camera and microphone streams without the need for third party plugins.

Mozilla is the third company after Google and Opera that is implementing WebRTC natively into the desktop version of the browser. Gum or getUserMedia is part of the HTML5 DOM Api component that is part of WebRTC. The technology has been enabled in Firefox Aurora and Nightly for now and will make its way in the coming months to the beta and stable channels of the browser once they reach Firefox 20.

You can head over to the test page that Mozilla created for the new audio and video recording feature of Firefox to test it out for yourself. Just click on the video, audio or audio & video buttons on the page to test the current implementation in Firefox. Note that you may receive prompts asking you to verify that you want to share devices, the microphone or camera, with the site that is requesting permission to access them. You need to share the devices before you can run tests.

firefox audio recording

Mozilla notes that gum demos working in Chrome need to be modified to work in Firefox as well which can be attributed to the fact that standards have not been finalized yet. When that is happening, you can expect implementations to work across browser versions.

We still currently prefix gUM as mozGetUserMedia because the standards committee is not yet done defining it. So, gUM demos that work with Chrome (using the navigator.webkitGetUserMedia call) will need to be modified to include the moz prefix.

Firefox 20 or newer also supports PeerConnection and DataChannels features, but they are not enabled by default. To enable them, load about:config in the Firefox browser and set the media.peerconnection.enabled preference to true.

Explosions kill 52 at Syrian university as exams begin

BEIRUT (Reuters) - Two explosions tore through one of Syria's biggest universities on the first day of student exams on Tuesday, killing at least 52 people and wounding dozens, a monitoring group said.

Bloodshed has disrupted civilian life across Syria since a violent government crackdown in early 2011 on peaceful demonstrations for democratic reform turned the unrest into an armed insurgency bent on overthrowing President Bashar al-Assad.

More than 50 countries asked the United Nations Security Council on Tuesday to refer the crisis to the International Criminal Court, which prosecutes people for genocide and war crimes. But Russia - Assad's long-standing ally and arms supplier - blocked the initiative, calling it "ill-timed and counterproductive.

Each side in the 22-month-old conflict blamed the other for Tuesday's blasts at the University of Aleppo, located in a government-held area of Syria's most populous city.

Some activists in Aleppo said a government attack caused the explosions, while state television accused "terrorists" - a term they often use to describe the rebels - of firing two rockets at the school. A rebel fighter said the blasts appeared to have been caused by "ground-to-ground" missiles.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a Britain-based monitoring group, said at least 52 people were killed and dozens wounded, but it could not identify the source of the blasts.

"Dozens are in critical condition. The death toll could rise to 90," the Observatory said in a statement, citing doctors and students.

State television - which did not give a death toll - showed a body lying on the street and several cars burning. One of the university buildings was damaged.

Video footage showed students carrying books out of the university after one of the explosions, walking quickly away from rising smoke. The camera then shakes to the sound of another explosion and people begin running.

If confirmed, the government's report of a rocket attack would suggest rebels in the area had been able to obtain and deploy more powerful weapons than previously used.

The nearest rebel-controlled area, Bustan al-Qasr, is more than a mile away from the university.

Activists rejected the suggestion that insurgents were behind the attack, however, and instead blamed the government.

"The warplanes of this criminal regime do not respect a mosque, a church or a university," said a student who gave his name as Abu Tayem.

GRINDING TOWARD STALEMATE

The rebels have been trying to take Aleppo - once a thriving commercial hub - since the summer, but have been unable to uproot Assad's better-armed and more organized forces.

International efforts to find a political solution to Syria's civil war have similarly resulted in stalemate, even as the conflict's death toll has surged above 60,000.

The crisis has driven hundreds of thousands of people to flee the country, many to neighboring Jordan, Lebanon and Turkey, where a fire at a camp in the country's southeast killed a pregnant Syrian woman and her three children on Tuesday.

Inside Syria, neither the military nor the insurgents have been able to sustain clear momentum.

The rebels remain poorly equipped and disorganized compared with Assad's forces, despite winning support from some regional powers like Turkey and Saudi Arabia.

The government also benefits from superior air power, used to pummel rebel-held areas around Damascus and elsewhere.

Rebel efforts to assault the capital also appear to have ground towards an stalemate. A witness in a rebel-controlled district of Damascus said on Tuesday the front line between the two sides was quiet.

The streets were still full of civilians, the witness said, despite the sound of shells hitting nearby buildings. He said people were walking around, buying sweets and sandwiches.

Kim Kardashian reveals she had fertility issues

By Randee Dawn, TODAY contributor

Kim Kardashian's pregnancy (with Kanye West) didn't just come as a surprise to her worldwide audience, it took the reality star by surprise, too. Why? Well, as she revealed to TODAY's Savannah Guthrie Tuesday, it turns out she faced fertility issues similar to her sister, Khloe's.

"Khloe has been very open about her fertility issues and I think I was always really kind of quiet about mine, and I have similar issues, and so it was a pleasant surprise when so many doctors were telling me one thing and then the opposite happens," she said. "That?s an exciting moment, you can plan for things like that. So I think it's just such a blessing knowing my circumstances."

Kim, 32, explained she would be due in July, which might make her firstborn's birthday coincide with her sister Kourtney's latest child, Penelope, who was born last summer. (Kourtney was also on hand, as the two discussed the start of the next season of their E! show, "Kourtney & Kim Take Miami.")

Kim also mentioned a conversation she and Kourtney had off-camera about how some large families handle babysitting and ... other issues.

"(Kourtney) said that in the old days, and maybe we should try this ... one sister should babysit all the kids ... so I can go out out or vice-versa and, you know, whichever sister is babysitting should breastfeed all the kids that are there," said Kim.

Kourtney insisted that her words were twisted in the translation. "I said, that's what they did back in the day. I didn't say that let's try this."

Still, don't count on the Kardashians sharing breastfeeding duties. Even though Kourtney said the idea didn't "freak" her out, Kim was uncomfortable with the notion.

Such sisterly discussions will no doubt be the focus of their show's new season. Meanwhile, there are still burning questions about Kim's marital status: Even though her marriage to Kris Humphries lasted just 72 days, he has reportedly declined to sign papers to complete the divorce. "I can't speak for anyone else (about why Kris hasn't signed)," said Kim. "It's a process. ... It's happening, hopefully."

So once that is all taken care of, will there be wedding bells in the air for Kim and Kanye? They did just buy a house together.?

"It's something that we talk about, but I think it's just right now (we're) focusing on the baby," said Kim. "What I've learned in life is -- I was always such a planner, and ... you think your life is going to be a certain way, and the best surprises just happen when you don't plan."

But that wasn't all the ladies had to share on TODAY Tuesday; they returned later on to chat with Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb. Kim acknowledged that she might actually have her child while still married to Humphries ("I hope not") but also recognized that some of her future is just out of her hands. "As much as I would love to be divorced and we're working on it and I hope it's sooner than later ... what are you going to do?"?

Once the baby has arrived, however, Kim seemed clear on how she plans to parent, particularly in terms of sleeping arrangements.

"I'm definitely going to be a different mom than Kourtney," she said. "I'm going to share my bedroom with my boyfriend, unlike her..... She loves to have the baby sleep in bed with her at night." And not just the baby, said Kim -- 3-year-old Mason is also part of the family bed in Kourtney's house, it appears. "I see my other friends that put their babies in their own room and put them to bed at a set time, so they can go out and have date night."

"Let's see what happens," said Kourtney, knowingly.

"Kourtney & Kim Take Miami" returns to E! on Sunday, Jan. 20, at 9 p.m.

Rupee falls on oil, corporate dollar demand

Tue Jan 15, 2013 12:43pm IST

Reuters Market Eye - The rupee is trading at 54.59/60 versus its previous close of 54.4950/5050 and off the day's high of 54.34.

Traders say good dollar buying is seen from oil firms and some corporates are helping pull the pair off lows.

Mild gains in domestic shares and positive sentiment post the RBI's announcement of a special dollar credit swap facility for exporters are likely to limit a very sharp upside.

The pair is now seen in a 54.40 to 54.70 range, say traders.

Commercial Finance & Some Important Considerations

In UK, commercial finance refers to the process of money outflow to business establishments in the form of loans. Usually banks and other lending houses provide commercial financing which is available in two forms ? Secured and Unsecured loans. The first type requires collaterals in the form of physical asset while the second type can be secured without risking anything as collateral. However, the lenders provide unsecured commercial financing only if they are convinced about good cash influx into business.

It is always easy for the big established business houses to secure finances while the small and medium size business owners struggle a lot to get loans. However, there is also a silver lining for them. SBA or Small Business Administration is a good source of obtaining commercial finance.

Commercial Finance Solutions

The small businesses can also gain benefits by hiring a financial coach or expert who will advise them how to structure a convincing plan for getting loans. The expert being an erudite personality on finance and investment can guide you and other small business owners with a number of commercial finance solutions. The lenders are more concerned about whether an applicant can pay off the loan within due date. Unsecured loan carries more risk and the lenders adopt a stricter approach towards lending.

Here are some essential considerations that one must keep in mind while opting for commercial financing.

What Security You Can Provide

To obtain secured commercial loans, you must place something as collateral. Any of these following assets can be used as collateral to obtain commercial finance:

  • Property (houses or commercial establishments)
  • Supplies or equipments
  • Gains from invoices

If you need a larger sum of commercial loans, the lenders will ask for a security in the form of building or land or other physical assets which are highly expensive. This is because the lenders require more security as they are loaning a heavy amount.? Higher is the worth of collateral, more will be the amount of loan ? this is the simple principle of commercial financing.

If financial climate is not favorable, it is not possible to avail more than 70% of the property value. If requirement is small, loan is provided against vehicles or equipments. Some lenders take a more flexible approach by allowing the borrowers to refinance equipments and obtain what they require for business funding.

Consider Your Credit History

A borrower?s credit history is the most important factor to determine the likely interest he will be offered. Good history, lower rate ? it is as simple as that. However, only a few possess a perfect credit history in these days of financial chaos. Those who are suffering due to credit crunch need to deal with the bad credit loan providers.

Approach Directly or Consult a Broker

Direct approach to the lenders is a common choice but the brokers can provide you with more options. They have good knowledge about market and the available loan schemes too. The brokers can bring you the best deal that suits your financial strength and requirements. The brokers will charge fees for their service but it is worth considering.
