Downtown Church saved by donation holds first service

Charleston, S.C. (WCIV) -- As members of Redeemer Presbyterian walked up the stairs to church, they walked under the 'Saved' banner.?

"Last Sunday, Craig preached on have faith in the Lord, like he said we had no idea we were going to be able to come up with the money, to make this a successful operation," says church member William Jones.

Jones says he was amazed to learn on Wednesday they had saved their church. Just days ago the congregation was a $150,000 short of being able to buy the 173 year old building. The church needed to match a private offer to buy the historic St. Andrews Church.

"Well, we didn't think it was appropriate for a house of God like this to be turned into a residence. I think a lot of other people, the preservation society and Mayor Riley for example, a lot of other people agreed with us," says Jones.

Some of the congregation members made peace with the idea they could loose their building.? Even they were overwhelmed at the last minute outpour.

"I'm still trying to comprehend.? He really does hold all things in his hand, and he can give us whatever we need and he did. So, to whom much more is given, more will be required," says church member Lisa Christian.

Pastor Craig Bailey says for the past several months the entire church was in fundraising mode.

"Then in just a miraculous way just Wednesday morning, just hours before our closing, we had two huge pledges come in that enabled us to be able to sign the papers," said Bailey.

Pastor Bailey says they will continue to work on the debt they owe on the church, but they are looking forward to focusing on the ministry.

Next Sunday evening, the church plans to hold an official dedication service at 6 p.m.

Drugmakers offer to cap Greece's medicines bill

LONDON (Reuters) - International drug companies have offered to cap the total amount the Greek government has to pay for its medicines in a bid to resolve a crisis that is jeopardizing both the supply of drugs to patients and drugmakers' profits.

The proposal was set out by the trade group the European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries and Associations (Efpia) in a letter to the Greek ministers of health and finance, a copy of which was seen by Reuters.

In exchange for a ceiling on outpatient pharmaceutical expenditure of 2.88 billion euros ($3.70 billion) in 2012, Efpia wants the government to commit to pay off all outstanding debts and promise not to allow further arrears to build up.

Under the plan, individual drug companies would be subject to a "clawback" if the cost ceiling is breached, based on their share of the Greek market.

The move follows growing concerns about the situation in Greece, where the government last month took the highly unusual step of suspending all drug exports from the country in an attempt to prevent shortages.

Richard Bergstrom, Efpia's director general, said the industry's offer to Greece reflected a new realism among major drug manufacturers, who have seen sales and profits eroded by steep price cuts and unpaid bills in austerity-hit Europe.

"Setting a growth cap or budget ceiling is not something we have ever liked to do in the past, but in the current environment it is better to do that and have some stability," he said in a telephone interview.

Other pharmaceutical stability agreements have already been agreed in Portugal, Ireland and Belgium, and the model could be extended to other states in future.

"We've suggested this to a number of other governments as an approach to deal with the financial crisis," Bergstrom said.

Both European and U.S.-based drugmakers have been hit by the worsening situation in Europe and executives have highlighted the issue as a drag on profits in recent third-quarter financial reports.

Andrew Witty, the chief executive of Britain's biggest drugmaker GlaxoSmithKline , told reporters last week it was "not reasonable" for governments to think they could continue to squeeze the industry without serious knock-on effects.

In the latest sign of how the crisis is affecting the provision of healthcare services, German pharmaceuticals firm Merck KGaA said on Saturday it was no longer delivering its cancer drug Erbitux to Greek hospitals.

Another German company, Biotest , which makes products from blood plasma, was the first drugmaker to stop shipments to Greece because of unpaid bills in June.

Obama banks on Bill Clinton to clinch close states

PALM BAY, Fla. (AP) ? Republican Mitt Romney has millionaire backers, a huge staff and years of campaign experience, which may be enough to win the White House. President Barack Obama has one asset Romney can't match, however: Bill Clinton.

The former president is sprinting through battleground states, delivering more speeches than Obama himself and, arguably, carrying much of the president's re-election hopes on his 66-year-old shoulders.

There's nothing secret about this campaign weapon. If it's a competitive state, Clinton is there ? and there and there ? picking apart Romney's proposals in the folksy yet detailed style he unleashed at the Democratic convention in Charlotte, N.C. Many party activists left there wondering why Obama can't make his own case as compellingly.

Friday was typical for Clinton. He made five stops in Florida, stretching from Palm Beach in the southeast to Fort Myers on the Gulf Coast to Tallahassee in the panhandle.

Romney had hoped to lock down the mega-swing state long ago. But he will return Monday because of its uncertainty.

Clinton, his raspy voice hoarser than usual, mixed nostalgia with lawyerly dissections when criticizing Romney's tax-cut plans in Palm Bay, the day's second stop, south of Cape Canaveral.

"I don't understand how people like me could sleep at night taking another tax cut, and taking it away from you," he said to cheers from several hundred people, who clearly did not resent his post-presidential wealth.

After shucking his suit jacket and loosening his orange tie under a brilliant midday sun, Clinton rattled off statistics about recent slowdowns in the growth of health care costs, and benefits of Obama's health law. "That is what Mr. Romney wants to repeal," he said.

"Bring it home, Bill" a woman shouted.

At every stop, Clinton praises Obama effusively, but he also reminds voters of his own days in office.

"I am the only living former president that ever gave you a budget surplus," he said in Palm Bay. Obama's policies, he adds, are much more in line with his than are Romney's.

Obama amplifies Clinton's boasts, knowing they give credence to the endorsements. In one Ohio stop Friday, Obama named Clinton four times.

"For eight years we had a president who shared our beliefs, and his name was Bill Clinton," Obama said. "His economic plan asked the wealthiest Americans to pay a little more so we could reduce our deficit and invest in the skills and ideas of our people." Romney opposed that plan, Obama said, and his math "was just as bad back then as it was today."

The white-haired Clinton looks drawn and tired at times, and he makes a few flubs. He apologized this week for saluting Pennsylvania when he happened to be in Ohio.

Clinton still runs late, even at morning events. Former Vice President Walter Mondale had to spin political yarns to kill time this week as voters waited in Minneapolis.

But the man who once headlined nine events in one day for his wife in the 2008 North Carolina primary ? when Hillary Rodham Clinton was battling Obama ? still feeds off crowds' energy and affection.

In Green Bay, Wis., Clinton gave a 57-minute dissertation on why the economy is better than many think. The only reason the Obama-Romney race is close, he said, "is because Americans are impatient on things not made before yesterday, and they don't understand why the economy is not totally hunky-dory again."

Clinton campaigned for Obama on Thursday in Wisconsin and Ohio. He will join Obama on Saturday for a rally in Virginia and on Sunday morning for an event in New Hampshire. And on Monday, the Obama camp hopes Clinton will snuff out any possible Romney eruption in Pennsylvania, scheduling stops for him in Pittsburgh and Scranton, plus two in Philadelphia.

No state underscores Clinton's value more than Florida, where the Republican Bush family looms large. While Obama makes every possible use of his party's most recent president, Romney can hardly mention George W. Bush, who left office amid an economic collapse and an unpopular war in Iraq.

Romney campaigned Thursday in Tampa, however, with Bush's brother Jeb, a former Florida governor who remains widely popular.

Much has been made of Clinton's once-frosty relationship with Obama. Clinton, among other things, in 2008 called Obama's history of opposing the Iraq war a "fairy tale."

The two men may never be chums. But Clinton's endorsements now seem full-throated. It delights Democratic loyalists.

"The Republicans have nothing to match the personal appeal and persuasive power of President Clinton," said Doug Hattaway, a consultant with close ties to the Clintons. "He can energize Democrats and close the deal with moderate swing voters."

Bruce Marvin, who attended Clinton's event in Chillicothe, Ohio, said the ex-president explains Obama's plans even more understandably than does the nominee.

"I think it's backing up what Obama may not have been able to get across," Marvin said.

Most marketers proceed to pitch their business opportunity to everyone they know and end up wondering why no one will join their business. The reason is simply because prospects do not care how good a business opportunity is. They just simply want to have success with whatever business they choose. It?s important to still be able to make money from the prospects that don?t join your business. Not everyone will be interested in your business but they may be interested in a product or service that someone else is promoting.

Would not it be great if you got paid for the referral? Affiliate income streams are a way for a company or leader to pay someone for business that is referred to them. The top online business systems endorse reputable products to ensure you the best possibility of creating a commission. These systems will promote these products automatically for you. So it is not the end of the world if your prospect does not join your business. You could end up creating more money on affiliate commissions promoting other peoples products. They will even do most of the work for you on complete auto-pilot. All you just have to do is pick up the phone and build the relationships with your own prospects. Which Foods Are Not Suitable for Eating When We Catch a Cold

In general, if we catch a cold, we all know to drink plenty of water, and do not eat many foods which should not be eaten. However, what foods should not be eaten in this stage? Originally, drinking tea will cure a cold, and eating eggs will aggravate the fever.

First, avoid drinking tea. Drinking strong tea will cause the brain to maintain a state of excitement, and to speed up the pulse, as well as elevate the blood pressure, and thus make the patient?s body temperature rises, and become irritable. At the same time, tea water will affect the decomposition of the drug and absorption, thereby reducing the efficacy of the drug.

Second, you should avoid eating eggs. Eggs containing nutrition is indeed rich, but we should not eat it during a fever, because the egg protein in the decomposition of the body, it will generate additional heat, and increase body heat, accelerate fever, and to extend the duration of fever, and finally increase the pain of patients.

Third, you should not eat duck or mutton. This is said by Chinese medicine.

Fourth, if you catch a cold, you should avoid eating mussel. Due to the environmental pollution, mussels often contain heavy metal content, so that increase the untangling of stomach, and aggravate the burden of work, which is not conductive to the absorption of excretion.

Fifth, you should not eat persimmons. If you eat it, it will delay the healing of colds, thereby aggravating the disease.

Sixth, if you catch a cold, you should not eat honey.

During a fever or cold, you should eat light instead of nourishing. However, if you eat so many honeys, it will make the heat in the patients? body cannot get a good clear-up and eliminating, and it is easy to result in other diseases. Seventh, Chinese medicine think that although the parsley can strength the stomach, if we catch a cold, we should avoid eating it, because often eating parsley will lead to more frequent colds.

In addition, we need to pay attention to more issues when we catch a cold. for example, we should pay more attention to keeping warm when we go out; we should drink more water all the day, to eliminate the heat in the body; we should do some exercise, to allow us recover as soon as possible; we also should take some drugs according to the guidance of doctors.

This Is the Dumbest and Most Awesome Way to Light a Bonfire

By Eric Limer

I don’t know who thought this was a good idea, but they were sort of?right, in an extremely dangerous way. These clowns decided that maybe they should light their bonfire with a home-made bazooka that fires fireworks, and thankfully they caught it on camera for the rest of us. Don’t try this at home, folks. Unless you’re into super stupid things that are also kind of awesome but still mostly stupid and dangerous, though awesomely so. [Reddit]

North Korea's 'Hotel of Doom' may open in 2013

13 hrs.

Next year?s most interesting hotel opening is not a six-star palatial Dubai building, or an over-the-top Las Vegas accommodation that would make?Versailles look understated.

It?s Pyongyang's Ryugyong Hotel, also known as the world?s tallest hotel and the ?hotel of doom? because of its long history.

The giant grey building was first begun in 1987, and will open its door for the first time next year, according to Reto Wittwer, CEO of international hoteloperator Kempinski, the German company which is trying to bring the project to fruition.

Wittwer told a conference in Seoul, South Korea, about his hopes for the hotel on Thursday.

So could this pyramid-shaped monster hotel herald a new era of openness in the famously closed-off country, now under the relatively newmanagement of supreme leader Kim Jong-Un?

?The short answer is no,? Bruce Goslin, executive managing director of K2 Intelligence and an expert on the country, told CNBC.com.

?Aside from the obvious facts that it?s a hermit country, ruled by a dictatorship and most of its population are starving, there aren?t many signs of itopening up soon.?

Some in the West had hoped that the notoriously isolationalist regime might soften its approach when its new President came in following the death ofhis father Kim Jong-Il last year.

However, he appears to have continued with the country?s controversial nuclear ambitions.

?The new President was educated in the West and so you?d think more comfortable to opening up ? but he still has to deal with a very powerful rulingmilitary, and I don?t think they?re going to take too kindly to tourists traipsing about the countryside,? Goslin said.

?It?s an interesting development, but let?s not forget this is the same glorious leader who wanted to create an amusement park.?

One of Kim Jong-un?s better-publicized photo opportunities since gaining the Presidency was at the Rungna People's Pleasure Ground with his newlywed wife in July.

Kempinski might find it difficult when confronted with the challenges of accessing basic services like water and electricity, Goslin pointed out.

Wittwer suggested that the new hotel could be a way for the government of getting access to foreign currency.

Of course, you never know when a population could suddenly change. Very few people predicted the Arab Spring.

If there was an opening up, there would be plenty of ex-pats wanting to see family members who had been part of the regime, as well as internationalvisitors curious to see what a closed state is like.

Goslin said this was unlikely, and argued that the government has access to hard currency through ?engaging in criminal enterprises like drugsmuggling.?

The investment also raises the intriguing possibility that it has been encouraged by Western governments as a way of helping North Korea to becomeless insular, Goslin pointed out.

Still, it?s not a reason to get excited about investment in North Korea yet, he said.

?This is not going to be one of this hotel chain?s biggest earners ? it may be more symbolic than anything else,? he said.

Life after a temp.

Being a temp sucks.

Everyone knows it, the people hiring you know it, the dog running around in the park knows it. It's a well know thing.

It's about time for me to maybe get hired on full time. I currently make about $12.50, which I know the temp agency is making WAY more than that off of where I'm located. I don't expect to make what they are being paid for obvious reasons.

What should I shoot for? I'm a Helpdesk\Lotus Notes Admin\IT Administrator and Software manager assistant. Not only do I take care of smaller projects, I help with the larger ones too. I want to shoot for something around $17-$20 and hour. If they offer me salary would be decent salary? I've honestly never made salary.

I've actually made more money at my last job and it was nothing but labor work lift this put it there band it up yadda yadda, day in and day out. I will say I was a full-time employee though.

With a baby on the way and a way to support my family I gotta make more than 12.50 an hour I'm barely making it as it is to pay the rent along with a car payment.

Whats your thoughts on Temp agencies or stories. I wanna hear some stories about how some might have ripped you off.

Anyways I hope they do decide to bring me on full-time but like I said I'm not going to work for chump change after I've put in my time studying and got degrees along with certifications.
