Baseball Expert Tony DeMarco has been covering the big leagues since 1987, and been casting Hall of Fame ballots for the last 12 years. He answers questions weekly here:

Q: I've never seen so many general manager positions open. Even seemingly solid GMs like Theo Epstein and Jed Hoyer were added to the mix. With all these front office shakeups, what's going to be the effect on the field in 2012 and beyond?
? Anthony, Chula Vista, Calif.

A: Probably the biggest difference will be in the Chicago Cubs, where Epstein has landed as president, and is expected to add Hoyer as general manager.

Epstein will meet soon with Mike Quade, who has one year left on his contract, so a change at manager isn't the slam-dunk people may be thinking, with Terry Francona available and Ryne Sandberg another obvious candidate.

But as has been written here several times over the past year, the Cubs roster needs to be blown up. They're stuck with Alfonso Soriano for three more years at $19 million-per, and unless they can work something out, they owe Carlos Zambrano $19 million.

But there is about $35 million in payroll wiggle room with Kosuke Fukudome being dealt away in July, and Carlos Pena and Aramis Ramirez becoming free agents. Ryan Dempster also has a $14-million player option, and could opt out three days after the World Series.

Everybody expects Prince Fielder to be a free-agent target of the Cubs, and they also need a third baseman, a right fielder and at least one starting pitcher. So Epstein and Co. have their work cut out for them, and this likely will be a multi-year proposition.

As for the other GM changes, Ben Cherington got promoted from assistant GM in Boston, and I don't believe he will veer far from the Red Sox's current model that has won them two World Series in the last eight seasons.

The first key decision will be naming a new manager. Blue Jays manager/former Red Sox coach John Farrell is off-limits, as the Jays aren't granting permission for teams to speak with him. But I see the Sox hiring that type of guy ? cerebral, fits their organization model, etc. ? as opposed to a bigger name.

Decisions also must be made on free agents Jonathan Papelbon and David Ortiz, and avoiding bad free-agent signings like John Lackey would be a wise way to go. The Sox will have to replace Lackey (Tommy John surgery) ? easy enough statistically ? and add another starting pitcher.

And to me, a very interesting choice will be what the Angels do. I'd like to see Diamondbacks assistant GM Jerry Dipoto get a well-deserved shot. I think he could bring a little something different to an organization so heavily controlled by manager Mike Scioscia, but at the same time, work well with the longtime manager.

Q: When does Tony La Russa become eligible for the Hall of Fame? Would it be five years after retirement, or something else?
? Shane Harshbarger, Des Moines, Iowa

A: The normal waiting period is five years after retirement. But there have been special exceptions, such as Roberto Clemente, who was inducted a few months after his tragic death on New Years Eve in 1972.

Interestingly, the five-year period wasn't established until 1954. Prior to that, there was no waiting period. Everybody was eligible, and Joe DiMaggio even got a vote while he was an active player.

In La Russa's case, his candidacy will be in the hands of the Veteran's Committee. Longtime general manager Pat Gillick was elected this year by that group, and Whitey Herzog was the committee's choice in 2010.

Incidentally, other managers in the Hall of Fame are Connie Mack, John McGraw, Joe McCarthy, Miller Huggins, Casey Stengel, Bucky Harris, Al Lopez, Walter Alston, Leo Durocher, Earl Weaver, Tommy Lasorda, Sparky Anderson, Dick Williams, Wilbert Robinson, Harry Wright, Bill McKechnie, Rube Foster, Frank Selee, Billy Southworth and Ned Hanlon.

La Russa, Joe Torre and Bobby Cox surely will be added to the list later this decade.

Q: Why doesn't Fox show the 'k-zone' during the game on pitches? Other than Joe Buck, I think TBS had better coverage.
? Matthew Beckett, Wellington, Fla.

A: I know they have done so in the World Series, but the Buck-McCarver team always seems to be a lightning rod of criticism, doesn't it?

I'm not anti-Buck/McCarver, but I preferred the TBS telecasts as well, mostly because they used announcer teams who broadcast the game on a daily basis throughout the season, and have better insight than the growing-out-of-touch McCarver.

As far as the big picture goes, all of MLB's network contracts have two more years remaining, and I think you'll see some significant changes at that point. No. 1, there will be a new commissioner in charge, as it appears Bud Selig is serious this time about leaving after the 2012 season.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Fox bow out, and a new player or two ? NBC perhaps? ? emerge.

Possibly in need of a mentor

I think that i need a mentor but I?m not quite sure. I would describe my writing skills as average at best. I would however like someone else?s opinion on this and I would also like to improve. Below i will put a series of posts i have made since I joined the gateway not to long ago. These posts will be in order oldest to newest. I would also like to know if i am improving.
Mismer's eyes opened at light speed. As his stomach rummbled and his head pounded he noticed he may had drank to much. He looked over to the floor by the door into the main room. Mismer had puked all over the place and it stunk.

Walking towards the door he steped over it and went into his bathroom to get some water. Tripping as he got into the bathroom he proped himself up against the wall and filled up a wooden goblet. Drinking it down in one gulp he shock his thumping head. He grabbed a spade from the front room and used it to carefully scoop up the sick and throw it in the bin.

He toke the bin and placed it outside. Looking up to the sky he thought to him self. "Such a lovely night, shame. I went and wasted it drinking myself to oblivion." The streets were almost empty at this time. The moon was high in the sky and the time must be aproaching midnight. Mismer couldn't stand to stay out to long beacause of the smell he had brought out there. As he turned to go inside he toke one last breath of fresh air.

Mark sat by himself thinking about the man he had spoke too. He had almost finished his meal by now. He had his last few bites of apple and stood up out of his chair. He scanned the room a saw a few people still entering the canteen. Sitting across the room ther was some people eating and chatting quietly.

He made his way towards the door only stopping to place his tray on a desk with the others waiting to be cleaned. The air outside was fresh and the skys where calm. There isn't a problem with polution on the island as they produced very little gases. Most of the power produced by the island was used to work the equipment in the labs.

Yukizo sat on a bench near the gate into Duel Academy. As he sat down he swung his bag off his back and perched it on the floor in front of him. He rummaged through the bag moving aside numerous rulebooks and strategy guides. At the bottom he found what he was looking for as he pulled out a sort of file.

He opened it with a grin on his face as he glanced down at the cards inside: Cyber End Dragon, Elemental Hero Rampart Blaster and some Junk Synchrons to name a few. He picked out a Junk Synchron and added it his deck in his belt. He then slammed the file closed as to hide the contents from the other students that were arriving. Smoothly slipping it into his bagged and zipping it up, as he looked other the path.

A girl ran inside the academy shouting back to a boy standing there in the middle of the gates. He then moved other to a bench opposite Yukizo. Yukizo looked at his arm and it had a duel disk already on. Instantly he knew that he should challenge him to a duel.

Yukizo stood up taking 4 steps towards the other bench and pointed at him.
"You! How would you like to test out your skills on me? You look like you couldn't duel your way out of a paper bag."
He said this with a strong tone of voice. It shouldn?t offend him but should set him up to try hard in the duel.

"Oh, well what are we going to do?" Lucy spoke back with a hint of sadness in her voice. "I feel way better now. Wait," Lucy fail to notice the absence of the voices. "They have gone!" Lucy let out a big cheer of hope

"Right I?m going to have to take you to Mr. Hanagen to get you checked." Lucy had shaken her head in disapproval. "It is just to make sure you are ok. Would you like your boyfriend to come too?" Lucy reacted straight away. "He's not my boyfriend! I mean I have nothing against it but he isn't." Lucy was shocked at the nurse?s assumption. "Well is he coming?" She replied with a bit of embarrassment. "Yeah, I suppose. If you want to." She turned to Anthony.

Lucy begun to drink her water as the nurse rubbed her back to comfit her. Lucy was a lot better now since the voices had gone. Her dreams from the past few years had come true and there was no moans and yells in her head.

Shiek laid on the sofa as he gazed at the pictures on his wall. Pictures of Namek and Vegeta land with vast landscapes with views epic proportions. He remembered buying these pictures and wondering what these planets would be like. The room was quiet until a howl pierced the air. Shiek jumped to his feet a shock, as soon as he heard the noise.

As he ran through the door and onto the street, he threw his jacket onto the table. His head darted to his right as he saw a woman being harassed. He ran towards the gang of men as he yelled. "Leave her alone!"

As he ran into the crowd of people he tripped over a foot. Seemingly instantly he began to take several kicks to the head. In his pain Shiek began to flail his arms around pulling the legs of some of the group.

Lewis lied on top of her as she lay on the floor. He began kissing her on the neck and stroking her thigh. From the over side of the trees came a loud yell. "Oy, what you doing here." The moment of passion was broken by the noise. Lewis quickly jumped to his feet and pulled Victoria off the floor. "Come on." he whispered in her ear before grabbing her hand and turning around towards the narrow path to the town centre.

-shirt and tie me thinks. Or maybe more casual?- Yukizo set off on his way back to his apartment. As he walked through the cold and dark alleys he continued to ponder on his outfit. -Hoodie maybe? Or i could were my trench coat.- Yukizo was a very indecisive man. "What is up with these lights." He wondered about the state of the street lamps that usually lit his way home. They flickered barely lighting the pathway before they all burnt out at once. A loud crack came from behind him as a spark fell to the ground.

He continued down the lane hurrying himself home. He ran up the metal stairs on the outside of the building and into the apartment. Closing the door behind him he hit the lights and left the curtains closed. He ran about throwing off his clothes and spraying around deodorant. He eventually decided on a shirt and jeans combo. He looked in the mirror as he slid on his trainers, he nodded to himself and left the apartment. -Looking good!-

Most of these quotes are not during conversation because I feel during conversations you cannot use your writing skills to the full. I tend to stick to one on one role-plays because I think that they seem to last longer and the posts tend to come in quicker. If you read all those posts then thanks, there may have been to many but I didn?t want to put to few. Any Advice and constructive criticism is appreciated.

The Kris Humphries/Kim Kardashian Kover Khronicles: Is the Kouple Kaput?

Are Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries at a krossroads? Or is this kouple helping to plant stories in the media in order to hype season two of their upcoming reality show?

We'll let readers kome to their own konklusions, but two new tabloid kovers are emphasizing the ongoing rumor that this marriage is koming to an end.

Enough!Kris vs. Kim Cover Story

First, Us Weekly quotes an anonymous, hilarious source who says the newlyweds "are not getting along at all. Kris is not drinking the Kardashian Kool-Aid, and it's causing major problems."

The main problem actually centers around the NBA lockout: with no games to play, and no income at the moment, Humphries is allegedly a drag to his new wife, according to a friend who cites an October 21 argument between the pair:

"She told him he need s to do something productive... He needs to get off his ass, like, yesterday."

OK! Weekly, meanwhile, reports that Kris is very different than the rest of the family.

He just isn't very nice, and Kim thinks she may have jumped into marriage too soon.

“Kris has a mean streak,” a confidante claims. “He can be cruel, a jerk; he doesn’t get that what he does has consequences and that people can have their feelings hurt. He says whatever comes to his mind.”

DO YOU THINK THIS COUPLE IS HEADED FOR SPLIT?

AMC renews 'The Walking Dead' for 3rd season (AP)

NEW YORK ? "The Walking Dead" will live on for yet another year.

AMC network said on Tuesday that its hit zombie drama, just two weeks into a second season, will be returning for a third season.

Sunday's episode drew an audience of 6.7 million viewers for the early airing and another 2.1 million viewers for the same-night repeat.

That eclipsed the year-ago audience for the series, which emerged as a surprise hit by averaging 5.2 million viewers weekly during that first season.

Based on the popular comic book of the same name, "The Walking Dead" depicts the aftermath of a zombie apocalypse confronted by a group of survivors outside Atlanta. Its cast includes Andrew Lincoln, Jon Bernthal and Sarah Wayne Callies.

Eddie Murphy, Brett Ratner Can't Agree On 'Beverly Hills Cop 4'

'Tower Heist' director tells MTV News he's 'hoping' to get sequel made, while Murphy seems to have counted out the movie franchise.

There seems to be two varying opinions on whether "Beverly Hill Cop 4" will ever happen. Ask the attached director, Brett Ratner, and he'll tell you he wants to make it happen with Eddie Murphy. But the response is ... rather different if you put the same question to the A-list actor.

MTV News recently caught up with Ratner as he promoted "Tower Heist," out this Friday and starring yes, Murphy. The director sounded hopeful about another "Cop" sequel.

"I think one day, I'm hoping, because it is one of the most iconic characters ever," Ratner told us. "Eddie does not go anywhere in the world where they're not like, 'Axel Foley, what's up?' more than 'Eddie Murphy.' It is something that our hope and desire is to get it made."

Much like he did with MTV News, Ratner has spoken on several occasions about his hopes for a fourth movie featuring the legendary Axel Foley, a Detroit cop who finds himself solving crimes in the very posh Beverly Hills.

In the latest issue of Rolling Stone, however, Eddie Murphy tells the magazine says that the possibilities for a fourth "Beverly Hills Cop" film are dead.

"They're not doing it," Murphy told the magazine. According to the actor, the proposed screenplays didn't really support the making of a new film. "None of the movie scripts were right; it was trying to force the premise. If you have to force something, you shouldn't be doing it. It was always a rehash of the old thing. It was always wrong," Murphy says.

But Murphy has other ideas for the beloved character. "What I'm trying to do now is produce a TV show starring Axel Foley's son, and Axel is the chief of police now in Detroit," Murphy revealed. "I'd do the pilot, show up here and there."

Ratner himself acknowledged the challenges involved with revisiting the "Beverly Hills Cop" franchise. "It's a hard nut to crack, especially since there are three that exist before that. It's a hard thing," Ratner admitted, before adding that the three films allow him to see what worked in the series and what didn't.

IBM names its first female CEO (AP)

SAN FRANCISCO ? IBM Corp. ushered in the first female CEO in the company's 100-year history on Tuesday.

Virginia "Ginni" Rometty, a veteran at the technology giant famous for its conservative corporate culture, will take over as CEO from Sam Palmisano, IBM announced.

Palmisano has been CEO for nearly a decade and turned 60 this year. He will stay on as chairman.

Rometty, 54, takes over on Jan. 1. She is currently in charge of sales and marketing at the company based in Armonk, N.Y.

After she takes over the helm at IBM, women will be in charge of two of the world's largest technology companies. Last month, Meg Whitman was named CEO of Hewlett-Packard Co. Whitman had previously joined eBay Inc. when it was a fledgling startup during the dot-com boom and guided it to become an Internet auction powerhouse. She also ran unsuccessfully for California governor last year.

While Whitman's HP is a sprawling company in disarray, Rometty will inherit a finely tuned IBM whose focus on the high-margin businesses of technology services and software has helped it thrive.

Their appointments are "setting a fabulous example" in the promotion of female executives, said Jean Bozman, an analyst with IDC who has followed both companies closely for years.

"It is a good sign," Bozman said. "It does create an environment in which more of these high-ranking women executives can see that's within reach. The more that happens, the more normal that will be. I think this might be a great sign that we've turned a corner. Certainly the Baby Boomers have wanted this for a long time."

HP, of course, had another female CEO, Carly Fiorina, but her tenure ended in acrimony when she was forced out in 2005 over disappointing financials and the fallout from her hard-fought battle to buy Compaq Computer.

IBM's move was unexpected. Palmisano had tamped down earlier talk of his retirement, insisting that he wanted to stay on as chief. In rare public comments, he said last year that he was "not going anywhere" and that there's no formal policy at IBM dictating when a CEO should retire.

Palmisano in a statement said that Rometty has led some of IBM's most important businesses, and was instrumental in the formation of IBM's business services division. She oversaw IBM's $3.5 billion purchase of PricewaterhouseCoopers' consulting business in 2002, which is a key element of a strategy that has made IBM a widely copied company. She is "more than a superb operational executive," Palmisano said.

"She brings to the role of CEO a unique combination of vision, client focus, unrelenting drive, and passion for IBMers and the company's future," Palmisano said. "I know the board agrees with me that Ginni is the ideal CEO to lead IBM into its second century."

Bobby Cameron, an analyst with Forrester Research who has worked with IBM in various roles over the years, said that in meetings with Rometty is "engaging" and inquisitive. Her interest in emerging technologies, not just the established sales leaders, is an important characteristic. Cameron thinks she's an ideal choice to continue Palmisano's work.

"I think she's smart. She asks questions; she doesn't just come in with an agenda, and she's interested in the leading edge, not just what's driving volume ? all those things are important for a CEO to have," Cameron said.

Palmisano has the same characteristics, Cameron said.

"I think it will be more of the same, and I think that's a good thing," he said.

IBM shares fell $1.16, or 0.6 percent, to $179.20 in extended trading, after the change was announced.

Rescuers battle to find Turk quake survivors, save baby (Reuters)

ERCIS, Turkey (Reuters) ? Rescuers pulled a two-week-old baby girl alive from the arms of her mother buried under a collapsed building on Tuesday as a search continued for survivors from a quake in eastern Turkey that killed at least 366 people and left thousands homeless.

Hope of finding people alive under tons of rubble was fading with every passing hour as rescuers pulled out more bodies and thousands of residents slept for a second night in crowded tents or huddled around fires and in cars across a region rattled by aftershocks in Van province, near the Iranian border.

With victims accusing the central government of being slow in delivering aid to a region inhabited mostly by minority Kurds, Ankara said it was sending more tents and blankets.

"We have no tents, everybody is living outdoors. Van has collapsed psychologically, life has stopped. Tens of thousands are on the streets. Everybody is in panic," Kemal Balci, a construction worker said as he awaited news on friends injured in the quake at a hospital in the city of Van.

"Aid has been arriving late. Van has been reduced to zero. We have no jobs, no bread, no water and there are nine members in my family. If the government doesn't give a hand to Van it will be like Afghanistan. Van has been pushed back 100 years."

The 7.2-magnitude quake, Turkey's most powerful in a decade, is one more affliction for Kurds, the dominant ethnic group in impoverished southeast Turkey, where more than 40,000 people have been killed in a three-decade-long separatist insurgency.

On Monday, Turkish tanks and armored vehicles crossed into northern Iraq headed in the direction of a Kurdish militant camp as part of cross-border operations in the wake of an attack last week by Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) fighters that killed 24 Turkish soldiers.

Quake rescue efforts focused on Ercis, a town of 100,000 that was worst hit, and the provincial capital Van, which has a population of one million.

Emergency workers extracted the infant girl alive from the wreckage on Tuesday, two days after it was buried with its mother under an apartment block.[nL5E7LP28B]

The mother was clutching the child to her chest when the were reached by rescuers, who set about rescuing the mother and a grandmother who were also still alive.

"We're going to get them out soon," a rescuer assured the other grandmother, whose eyes brimmed with tears of joy over the survival of her grandchild.

Elsewhere, exhausted workers used machinery, jackhammers, shovels, pick axes and bare hands to comb through rubble. Every so often, they would shout for silence and generators and diggers would stop, straining to hear voices under the wreckage. Seconds later the drone of the machinery would start again.

Officials said 12,000 more tents would reach Van on Tuesday after complaints that entire families were cramming into tents and television images showed desperate men pushing each other roughly to grab tents from the back of a Red Crescent truck.

The Turkish Red Crescent has said it was preparing temporary shelter for about 40,000 people, although there were no reliable figures for the homeless. Many residents spent the night outside fearing any return to their damaged homes.

SLOW RESPONSE

Turkish authorities have been criticized for failing to ensure that some of the neediest, particularly in villages, received tents as night temperatures plummeted.

"Life has become hell. We are outside, the weather is cold. There are no tents," said Emin Kayram, 53, sitting by a camp fire in Ercis after spending the night with his family of eight in a van parked nearby.

His nephew was trapped in the debris of a building behind him, where rescue workers had been digging through the night.

"He is 18, a student. He is still stuck in there. This is the third day but you can't lose hope. We have to wait here."

How fast Ankara manages to deliver aid and long-term relief to the survivors might have political consequences in a region plagued by poverty and the Kurdish insurgency, analysts said.

Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan, who secured a third consecutive term with a strong majority at a June election, has pledged to push reforms in parliament and rewrite the constitution to address long-time Kurdish grievances in an effort to end violence.

"If we want to win the hearts of our brothers of Kurdish origin, we should act now. We should beat the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) with this approach, which is more effective than arms," leading commentator Mehmet Ali Birand wrote.

Turkey's Disaster and Emergency Administration said on Tuesday the death toll had risen to 366, with 1,301 people injured. The overnight death toll stood at 279.

The death count was likely to rise further as many people were still missing and 2,262 buildings have collapsed.

"It was like judgment day," said Mesut Ozan Yilmaz, 18, who survived for 32 hours under the rubble of a tea house where he had been passing time with friends.

Unhurt but lying on a hospital bed under a thick blanket, his face blackened by dust and dirt, Yilmaz gave a chilling account to CNN Turk of how he survived by diving under a table.

"The space we had was so narrow. People were fighting for more space to survive," Yilmaz said. "I rested my head on a dead man's foot. I know I would be dead now if I had let myself go psychologically."

The government has received offers of aid from dozens of countries around the world, including from former ally Israel, but has so far accepted aid only from Bulgaria, Azerbaijan and Iran.

The center of Van resembled a ghost town with no lights in the streets or buildings. Hardly any people could be seen.

The sense of dislocation was even greater in Ercis. With no homes to go back to, thousands of people, mostly men, paced the streets, stopping to look at the destruction or whenever there was some commotion at a rescue site.

At one collapsed building on the main road through Ercis, exhausted rescue workers shouted at crowds of men pushing forward to catch a glimpse as efforts were made to free a woman's corpse from the rubble.

"Get back. Are you not human? Show some respect. Do we not have any honor or pride?" one rescue worker yelled. Crowds formed at one demolished building where bystanders said a trapped boy had made contact by mobile phone.

As a rescue team dug at the rubble, one man screamed at the workers: "Where were you last night? I told you last night there were people here."
